Festivals, festivals and more festivals

I officially finished Quick Shop on March 2, 2011. Since then I’ve been concentrating on submitting it to several film festivals, which I’ll outline below. We’ve got some big dates coming up and I’m excited about our chances…

Accepted!
Quick Shop got its first festival acceptance to the Lancaster Area Film Festival to be held on April 9, 2011. This was exciting news, as it’s always good to get that first (in a hopefully long line of) festival acceptance.

I will definitely be attending the festival, and I’m hoping as many friends, family, cast and crew as possible will be able to join me. Chris Stevens is a candidate for the Viewer’s Choice Best Actor award, so let’s all be there and vote to support him and Quick Shop. For more information on the festival, you can visit their web site at:

http://www.lancasterareafilmfestival.com

The academy-award winning short God of Love will also be screening that night, so that’s pretty cool too!

Festival Submissions
As of tonight I have five outstanding festival submissions:

And on the near horizon (submission deadlines, not the festivals themselves) we have the following:

The dates of these festivals range from early April to late November.

Tom Dwyer on the History Channel
Our own Tom Dwyer will be on the National Geographic Channel on Wednesday, April 6 at 10 PM. Here’s a excerpt from the e-mail I got from Tom:

Last summer I worked on a National Geographic TV series called Expedition, the episode entitled “Ben Franklin’s Pirate Fleet.”  The show is now scheduled to be broadcast (is that the right word for content sent through cable?) on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 10pm (EST).

You can learn more about this program here:

Let’s all tune in (or DVR) to see Tom on TV! Nice job Tom!

IMDB Title Page
The IMDB page for Quick Shop went live a few weeks ago, and has most of its information up:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1854325/

I’m going to wait another week or two before I attempt to update the information they haven’t posted yet, and also get the movie poster up on the page. I encourage any newly listed actors to sign up for IMDB’s resume service, which can get your resume and picture listed on the Quick Shop page.

I guess that’s about it for now. As soon as I hear anything from the outstanding submissions, I’ll let you all know.

It’s Alive!

Hello all, just wanted to give everyone a short update on Quick Shop.

IMDB
The IMDB page for Quick Shop went live a couple days ago and has since been slowly getting updated. I think most everyone is up there except for John Leary, Meredith Orlow and Rich Orlow. And of course they have Tom Dwyer linked to another actor with the same name. Once everyone is up there, I’ll submit an update to fix all the little problems with it. Here’s the page:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1854325/

DCTV Submission
I recently mailed in a submission to DCTV’s Night Vision Series. If accepted, the series is showing on March 25th in New York City, so this could potentially be the very first public showing of Quick Shop. I’ll keep everyone posted on this one! Here’s the link for more information about the series:

That’s about it for now, I will certainly let everyone know when I hear back from any of the outstanding submissions.

It starts…

Hello everyone…lots of exciting things going on so I’ll get right into it.

Show & Grow Screening
We had the screening of Quick Shop on Monday, February 28 at Splash Studios in NYC. Although it wasn’t as well attended as we’d hoped,  I did get a lot of positive feedback about the movie, as well as some constructive criticism that I will definitely take into account over the next month or so as I prepare film festival submissions. It was cool to see it up on the big screen and through theater-quality speakers! I’d like to thank Alison for letting me screen it, John Leary for coming out and attending the screening, and Barbara from Splash Studios for letting us use their space. As a token of my appreciation, I left the rest of my oatmeal raisin cookies! 🙂

Film Festival Submissions
I made two film festival submissions today…the Lancaster Area Film Festival and the SouthSide Film Festival. I would expect that later this week at least one of them will confirm that they received my submission, which should get me an invitation to create our IMDB page for the movie! How exciting! There are still about 4-5 festivals that I’m contemplating submitting to over the next month, so we’ll see how that goes. Now I check my submission status page on WithoutABox.com (shown below) like every 5 minutes to see if the festivals have gotten my DVD. 🙂

Girl in Trunk
John Leary and Alison McMahan’s script GIRL IN TRUNK is one of five scripts selected to be a part of the IFP Script to Screen Conference “Make Your Pitch” Workshop! Take a look at this page on Alison’s web site for more information.  Congratulations John and Alison, and good luck with the pitch!

Well, I guess that’s about it. I’ll keep everyone posted on the film festivals statuses…have a great March!

Almost there…

Hello all!  I’m counting down the days until the screening at Splash Studios on the 28th, followed immediately by my first film festival submission to the Palm Springs Shortfest on March 1st. Everything is coming together and it’s very exciting! Here are some more details on what’s been going on lately:

It’s a Boy!
I’d like to congratulate Angela and Chris Izzo on the birth of their fourth child, Owen Christopher Izzo, who was born at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 21, 2011. Owen was 6 lbs, 9 oz and 19 1/2” long. Now Angela can use all those sleepless night staying up with the baby to work on more wallpaper and other related media for Quick Shop! 😉  Just kidding Angela, take it easy and enjoy the new bundle of joy. Congratulations!

Updated Trailer
I reworked the teaser trailer a bit, made it 30 seconds long (mostly for film festivals), and had Steve Davit compose a new score for it.   You can view it on YouTube or watch it on the Media Page. Nice job on the score Steve!

The Score
I have been working hard with Steve Davit and Chris Gordon to finish up the score for Quick Shop. I even managed to slip in a song from Tommy Murray (One-Day Seminar), which was cool because I wanted him to help out in same way with Quick Shop. Dave Hoffman just finished up some beautiful piano music for the opening and closing credits, as well as the music for the DVD menu. And finally, I was able to take some of the muzak that Ray Ferretti wrote for One-Day Seminar, run it through a bypass filter to make it sound like it was coming over some crappy speakers, and have it play in the background during the scenes inside the Quick Shop.

Thanks to all of these musicians for all their help, hard work and talent. You guys rock and this movie wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is today without it!

The Mercury
Dave Hoffman just had an article posted on The Mercury (a local newspaper in the Pottstown area) containing an interview with him, and he mentions his work on Quick Shop. Congrats on the publicity and thanks for the shout-out Dave!

Film Festivals
So here’s a list of film festivals that I’m definitely planning on submitting Quick Shop to (with the state in parenthesis), in order of Date:

  • Palm Springs International Shortfest (CA)
  • Southside Film Festival (PA)
  • Erie Horror Film Festival (PA)
  • Long Island International Film Expo (NY)

And here is a list of festivals I’d like to submit to, depending on how much money I can raise toward the submission fees:

  • Austin Film Festival (TX)
  • Rhode Island International Film Festival (RI)
  • FirstGlance Film Fest (PA)
  • Hollyshorts Film Festival (CA)
  • Pittsburgh Horror Film Festival (PA)
  • Shriekfest Horror/SciFi Film Festival (CA)
  • Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival and Trailer Competition (VA)
  • Terror Film Festival (PA)
  • Telluride Horror Show (CO)
  • The New York City Horror Film Festival (NY)

Wallpaper
I created some Quick Shop wallpaper for your widescreen monitors based off Angela’s wonderful poster artwork. You can find it on the Media page.

I guess that’s about it for now. I’m just putting the finishing touches on the movie in preparation for Monday. I will Tweet and blog again on Tuesday night and tell you all how it went.  Until then…
